Katie Abney, LPC, LMFT

Katie is a dually Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family therapist who specializes in working with adolescents, young adults, and families.  She received her Master of Arts in Counseling graduate degree from St. Edwards University (Austin, TX) and her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX).  

Katie has been working with clients in private practice since 2013.  In addition to working in private practice, she has gained experience in a number of different settings including a child/adolescent inpatient unit, adult forensic inpatient unit, woman’s prison, residential treatment center for boys, and in-home therapy for children on the Autism Spectrum.

She has expertise in working ADHD and learning disabilities, anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment disorders, life transitions, and difficulties with emotion regulation. Additionally, Katie has a passion for working parents and families struggling to understand and manage their child’s difficult behavior.  As a result, she has become an Advanced Trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach and uses this methodology to help parents improve and deepen their relationship with their child as well understand their child’s intensity in a way that fosters success and nurturing.
